Popeye

Posting my outfit from Saturday, since I didn't have time to post it then. :) That day was filled with peach freezing (you know, just 3 bushels to boil, dunk, peel, slice, and bag), cleaning, cooking, the usual.

I wasn't planning on pulling anything together but my denim skirt and boyfriend tee, but this outfit just appeared and was suitable for the day. :)

What makes it work? Well, the shirt is fitted, but fun and functional, albeit slightly too warm to stay outside long. The skirt is pouffy, and not my most slimming, so the shirt helps keep it flattering. Love the pockets on the skirt!

So, Friday evening I walked out on my balcony to hang out my wet bathing suit and was attacked by a hive of wasps. One got me just below my elbow on my right arm, and another on my left thumb. I usually swell up from stings about 3x larger around the area, and this time was no exception! The way the swelling made my forearm puffy,  my dad said I looked like Popeye the Sailor Man, and joked that I should draw an anchor "tattoo" on my arm for the day- so we did! It was just ballpoint pen and it gave us some entertainment.  I wasn't in any pain from the stings, thanks to lavender oil and baking soda applied right away.

What do y'all do for stings? Blessings on your day!

  5. I've never thought of putting lavender oil on it, thanks for the tip! My sister got stung by a nasty red one a few days ago and it still hurts! I love your blog!

  6. Plantain. Roll it around in your hands until there is juice, then put the whole thing on the sting. It really helps with swelling.

  8. My mosquito bites always turn huge and spread. I've been putting Witch Hazel on them immediately. By the next day, the bug bite's gone! Hope your bites heal quickly!

  10. Oooh, so sorry about the stings!

I've never been stung by a bee or wasp! :-) Even though we had bushes all around the house, covered with bees.

Bees in New Zealand must be really peaceful :-)

My sister did step on a bee once. That hurt.

I love your oufit, the pockets must be SO handy!

  12. Cute! Love the color combo! I used to just do baking soda for stings, but about 2 years ago I found out that I was allergic to bees, so now I have to carry epinepherine with me and if I ever get stund I have to take a shot of that. We got a realingly bad storm Friday night we lost power about 6:30 that night and just got it back at noon. So that is why I haven't emailed or commented or anything. Did you get that bad storm? Did you lose power? What are you doing for the fourth? I think we are having dinner with my grandparents tonight, and then watching fireworks that my grandparents landlady who lives across the street and sells fireworks sets off! I will email tomorrow and tell you more!
    Love, Katie

  13. Your outfit is stylish! You always pull off beautiful outfits.

Ech, those bees. We are getting mean ones here die to lack of water. In a drought. Bees and coyotes and other wildlife are coming out of their habitats to find water. And our kitties went missing now, all at the same time. Connection? :(

    Apis mellifica for bee stings!

  16. Love your outfit! {especially the shirt :) }
I've been told that when you get a bee sting if you put a penny on it right away it keeps it from swelling. I'm quite sure it works :)

  17. Plantain is a must for stings...it works for most anything! You're swelling would have been minimal(to nothing) and gone away fast:)

  18. Also! Plantain is a weed found almost everywhere! You pick some and just chew it up...spit on your sting/burn/mild cut!
