Grocery Shopping... For Fun?

I don't know about you, but "go grocery shopping together" isn't exactly on my top 10 list of things to do with my friends. But, out here in the sticks, we'll take any excuse to put on our fun footwear and walk on pavement in the Big City for a day. :)

Usually I like to perfect my outfit a bit more than I did this morning, but after going to bed at midnight and waking up at 4 am not able to get back to sleep because I had a Beatles song stuck in my head, I was feeling too lousy to put much oomph in my appearance. :P
But I thought I'd share anyway. 'cause not all of life is glamorous.

We stopped at Michael's and Laura and I found some fabulous headwear.

Shirt: Walmart
Skirt: Made by me. I don't know what I'd do without this skirt.
Boots: Shoe Carnival
Boot socks: Steinmart!

So, a basic jean-skirt-with-solid-top-hair-plain-down outfit. Hopefully the supah cute boots make up for it. :D And I only felt slightly weird switching from walking through Whole Foods eating gelato one minute to 2 hours later walking through a ragweed field to see a new calf. In these boots.

Y'all have a fabulous next hour! And the hour after that. And the 10 minutes after that. And the week after that....
What do you like to do for fun with your friends?

  3. Very cute! I love how you made such a cute outfit out of very simple pieces! Almost cowgirl/country looking. The country look is increased by wearing your hair plain down. Love the boots! Actually, I've been so bust with work and school that I haven't done anything fun with friends since we went shopping together!

  6. I live about 30 minutes from Chattanooga, so we like to drive down there, grab some icecream and window shop. A photo shoot is usually in order as well!

Just wanted to let you know how much my sister and I love your blog. It's so nice to find a modesty blog by someone who loves skirts as much as we do!

Keep up the good work and God bless!

Actually, I just went grocery shopping with a friend a couple of weeks ago and I do believe that it may be the most fun thing we've done together! Certainly is an opportunity for lots of giggling. ;)

  8. Okay, you've piqued my curiosity. Which Beatles song? I sing "Good Night" to my baby boy. Time to pick up his 2-year-old brother at preschool. Thinking it's time for some "Eleanor Rigby" in the car....

  11. I don't think it would be at the top of my list, but if it was with the right friend, I would probably be pretty memorable ;)
I totally loved the outfit, especially the shirt! I guess I just really liked the sleeves...
And if I could do something fun with friends, I would probably go do a photoshoot with them at the covered bridge in our town :D

  14. It sounds like the music was a bit of a pain, but would you like to share what Beatles song kept you up at night? Throughout my day on Tuesday I kept hearing, in my head, the line “I would like you to dance, take a ch-ch-ch-chance, Birthday!” From “Birthday”, but of course I am something of a Beatles fan.
I would also like you to know that I view your blog because I like your style and I like reading about your day-to-day adventures.

    1. I had, "With A Little Help From My Friends" stuck in my head. I actually prefer the Bugs and Friends version of that song since I'm not as big of a Beatles fan as I wish I were.
Thanks for the comment, although I really don't encourage guys to read my blog since it's meant to encourage young ladies. :)

    2. Well, that’s a heck of a song to get stuck in your head, really, Olivia. Still there is a message there whoever it is doing the singing, the Beatles, the Bee Gees, Bob Seger, whomever [I just like 60s and 70s rock and roll]. I hope you got a better night’s sleep the next night.

As a male who tries his best to practice modesty in his own clothing, and practices respect toward women, I understand why you encourage the likes of me not to view your website in favor of encouraging women to be true to themselves and their morals. On occasion I do view your posts, and I feel encouraged that there are other young people interested in a modest style of dress, its wonderful what you do for young women. Bluntly, it’s good to know there are people out there like you, Olivia, keep up the good work and never get discouraged (same for any of you dear ladies).

  15. Haha! I grew up a country girl, and I can totally imagine why you would want to do it with a friend. My personal motto is that anything is fun if you can talk to someone while you do it!

  20. Can you tell me if your skirts are your own patterns, or ones you have purchased? If purchased which ones, and if your own, have you considered selling patterns for them?

I am speaking of this one as well as the longer ones you post pics of.

  22. I love this outfit, it looks so much like what I would wear to go to college, simple but not frumpy. But I don't have boot socks. Yours are really cute and it's such a nice detail !
For fun with my friends, I like to walk and do photoshoot...I live near the countryside and just love being in the fields !
