Tuesday's Outfits- Sister Style!

Today was a lazy day, except for homeschool co-op classes this morning... although even those were pretty easy-going! It was 58* or so and overcast- perfect for opening the windows and rolling around in the grass with your little brothers. :)
I walked into the kitchen this morning and was struck (again. Like I am every morning) by how cutely my sisters were dressed. They do a fabulous job picking out outfits and changing things up. With three of us all about the same size and sharing all the same clothes, sometimes it's hard to be creative. But, they're always surprising me and some of my favorite outfits have been their creations. :D
So, I decided to share their outfits with you, too!

What I'm wearing:
Mustard polo: Goodwill
Striped sweater: Forever21
Jean skirt: Made by me
Boots: Justin Brand, boot store in Nashville

What Emma's (age 15) wearing:
Brown cowl-neck tank: Handmedown
Shirt: Goodwill (seen previously on this blog, here!)
Skirt: Made by me
Denim flats: The Shoe Dept
Headband: Made by me

What Willa's (age 13) wearing:
Pink shirt: Goodwill
Light purple tank: JCPenny's
Black skirt: Handmedown
Multi-printed Keds: Thrift Store

I love my sisters. :D Would y'all like to see more of their outfits? Do you share clothes with anyone?

Sunday Denim

I try not to wear denim to church, because usually it's too casual. But, I made a dark denim skirt yesterday and really wanted to wear it today, so I dressed it up.

 Wearing....
Ruffled fancy t-shirt: Kohls... If I recall correctly
Cardigan: Handmedown
Tank: JCPenny's
Skirt: Made by me
Boots: Shoe Carnival
Scarf/headcovering: Handmedown (I moved it from a headscarf/bandthing to a ponytail bow after the worship service)
Earrings: Payless
Bracelet: Gift

What dressed the denim up? Well, first of all, it helped that the skirt is pretty simple, has a fitted, slimming waistband, and is floor-length and dark colored. The ruffled neckline gives a fancy edge. The black jacket gives warmth and another layer of "I thought about my outfit this morning", and the bracelet and earrings match the skirt buttons and give some glamor. :D My boots were 3" heels, so that helped with my posture. :D

I had so much fun making this skirt! I've never done buttonholes or a fly before, and both actually turned out! :D

How do y'all feel about denim at church? Do you try to dress it up? Do you just not wear it? Do you think it's okay?

Its Friday!

Happy Friday! Today's weather is a bit disappointing after yesterday's- it was 77* and super windy, cloudless, and sunny. Today is overcast and cooler. My outfit kind of reflects the grey of the day.

Tank: JCPenny's
Cardigan: Forever 21
Skirt: Made by me
Flip flops: Old Navy (although I've since changed into rainboots 'cause it's just too cold!)
Feather earrings: Droplette

I love this cardigan. It's super flowy and warm, but still flattering because of the flowy-ness. That's hard to portray in pictures, unfortunately. :P

What makes this work? The fitted sleeves keep the cardigan from being frumpy, while the short straight skirt keeps the outfit slimming. The mauve tank gives some color. Only earrings for accessories today~ the stripes are bold/busy enough already. Super easy outfit to throw on.

I washed my hair this morning, so to keep it out of my face while it dried, I did a little french braid along my hair line.

I have a guest post over at Bramblewood Fashion today- check it out!

Do y'all find yourselves dressing to match the day? What do y'all have planned for this weekend? I plan to do laundry-- exciting, right? ;)

Review: Halftee

Have y'all heard of Halftee? They're a company that sells just that-- half-tee-type shirts! They're meant to be layered under another shirt to make it more modest, without being bulky or hot. They asked if I would like to review one of the shirts and of course, I said yes! I chose the Basic Halftee in Brown. It arrived in just two business days!

It's soooo comfortable. According to their size chart, I'm a medium size, but my two sisters are a small, so we went with the small so that we all could wear it. The small fits me just fine, albeit a little snugger than the picture above suggests it should. So, order according to your measurements!

I've been taking care of sick children and cooking all day, and the Halftee has performed beautifully! I haven't had to worry about bending over like I usually have to with tank tops, and its stayed put awesomely.

I couldn't decide which shirt I'd wear it with to show y'all, so I did three different ones. :D This is going to be an awesome addition to my warmer weather wardrobe- which is like 7/8ths of the year here in TN. :D

I'm wearing....
Shirt: Kohl's, seen 370 days ago on this post. ;)
Undershirt: Halftee
Skirt: JCPenny's, with major clearance and a Christmas sale, I got it for $1.50 :D It was 2 sizes too big, but that was easily remedied! :D
Hat: Target
Boots: Target, seen earlier this week here.
Earrings: Gift

I wanted to test out the Halftee's ability to stay put and to keep straps concealed and the neckline high. So, I chose a shirt that I'm always having to adjust. It's not very classy to be always checking to make sure your straps aren't showing! That was the case with this shirt- I'd have to wear my hair down to help with any peek-a-boo straps. No more! :)

I chose the short sleeved Halftee because last summer my sisters and I would wear normal t-shirts under our sleeveless shirts, but they were usually bunching and bulky and fussy. So, the Halftee is going to be fantastic!

This shirt is another that I was always fixing. It was modest enough with just a tank, but the Halftee makes it confidently modest. :D Especially in the back- it was a bit too loose, and now it's so nice to not finagle it all the time! :)

I encourage y'all to check out Halftee's website- they have some really cute shirts! I'd love to get a white full lace long sleeved Halftee for spring! Or a grey 3/4 Halftee... or a navy basic... I'd say the peace of mind, versatility, and comfort of Halftees make them way worth the reasonable price. :D

So, had any of you heard of Halftee before? Think they look like something you'll add to your wardrobe?

Pride

Today's sermon and discussion time touched on the subject of pride. Specifically, how we can think we're better than others because of what we do compared to what they do. This applies to modesty so well! I mean, girls, isn't it hard to not go around flouting our high neck and long hemlines and saying to ourselves, "Well, I'm glad I'm not showing that much skin!" We have to remember that without the grace of God, we would be dressing the same way or worse. We can be the tidiest, most modest, "goodest" girl out there and still have pride show through our layers and layers of clothes. God's grace is abundant, and we so do not deserve it, so let's not act like we do.

This is what I wore to church this morning:
Floral pearl snap shirt: Walmart
Brown sweater: Handmedown
Skirt: Made by me (seen here, and the shirt is the same, too)
Boots: Shoe Carnival
Headcovering: Fabric belt from a pair of pants
Earrings: Droplette
Pearl necklace: Gift from great grandmother

What makes this outfit work? Well, it was cold out today, but I didn't want to have to wear a jacket. So, I layered a sweater over a button-up. The under-layer poking out gives it a scholarly look that is usually considered classy. The rolled-up cuffs keep the double sleeves from looking frumpy, while the length of the skirt gives me a taller appearance... especially with the 3" heeled boots that you can't see. ;)

"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit." ~ Proverbs 29:23

Knit Jumper

Today was a bad hair day. A tired day. A busy-but-don't-want-to-do-anything day. A knit-jumper with flip flops or socks or rain boots kind of day.

And sorry I blew the photos out so much... didn't realize it until I uploaded them. :P
What I'm wearing today:
Blue striped shirt: Handmedown
Knit jumper: Walmart- also seen here before
Rain boots: Target

What makes this work? Well, you can't tell from the pictures, but the colors are really fun together. The pinstripes keep the knit classy. The jumper is super comfortable, and the undershirt is fuss-free. Plus, the jumper works so I can wear this shirt because it's too tight. :D

The length of the jumper keeps it from looking too frumpy.

In a silly fit of girlish-ness the other night, I chopped some more layers into my hair. I love them when my hair is down, but when I want to put it back, the shorter layers are forever falling out. But! I finally figured out a way to keep them in better. I braid them into small braids from the root to as close to the tips as I can get, and then french braid my hair normally, including these pieces. Because it's like the shorter layers are these bigger strands thanks to the braiding, they stay with the other hair. :)

I'm off to finish throwing everything in the fridge into a pot for dinner... :P

Fab Ab and Casual?

I'm forever thinking y'all are gonna get bored of seeing my normal every day clothes... but then you leave such encouraging comments that I second guess that thought. And, honestly, I don't dress up except for church in an average week, so if you want posts, this is what you're going to get! ;)

So, here's what I'm wearing today:
Shirt: Thrift store
Brown tank: JCPenny's
Skirt: Goody's 6 years ago (!!!)
Boots: Boot store in Nashville
Leather cuff bracelet: Gift from a friend
Feather earrings: Gift from another friend
My hair I did kind of weirdly today- braids going every which way. I think I like it.

If you follow me on Pinterest, you may remember when I posted I was going to follow this chart:

It was supposed to take all of February to complete (duuuhh), but I skipped the first two weeks and finished it last night! It was so much fun and super easy to just do the 8 minutes or so of exercise before bed. If you're looking for a simple way to get in some toning workouts, you might try it! I had great results... although I will admit I did about 20 more sit-ups than it called for each day, or did the sit-ups on an exercise ball to make it harder.

Do you mind casual outfits? What kinds of exercises do you do? I'm looking for something like, "Midsection March", so send it my way! ;)

Olive

I like the word Olive. I don't like the food, but I love the color. I like it because its super close to my name, Olivia, and it's a color. Like, how many people have a name similar to "blue" or "orange"?? I guess there could be someone named Redding in this world. :D

While Laura Elizabeth was doing a photoshoot with my sister yesterday, I balanced my camera on the bumper of my truck and had my own photo session. ;)

Striped shirt: Walmart!
Swirly skirt: Thrift store!
Belt: Thrift store!
I was wearing boots with this, but then my sister took them for her photos, so I'm wearing sneaker looking flats from Payless in this picture.
Hair: Super flouffy crimps thrown into a side french braid. :)

What makes this outfit work? Well, the stripes keep the plain skirt up-to-date. The belt helps keep the shirt from moving around, and adds some fun contrasting pattern. You can't see them, but my earrings were big jingly circle/drop things that added some texture and fun. :)

What are y'all up to this week? I spent yesterday afternoon and evening painting the 10ft ceilings of a friend's basement, so I'm recovering from that today. Turns out looking straight up for 8 hours hurts your neck somethin' awful! :P

My Sweats

Some people can live in sweat pants and be comfortable with how they feel. I did that my twelfth year of life, and, honestly, it did not feel good. Saggy bums and stretched out knees do not make one feel collected and confident. But still, there are days that one just needs to hang around in stretchy clothes. This is what I wear on those kinds of days.

Jacket: Khol's, So [wear it declare it]
Boyfriend Tee: Thrift store
Lace-edged cami: JCPenny's
Skirt: Made by me
Earrings: Thrift store (is that gross?)
Silver glitter belt: Stolen off a pair of pants my sister bought when she was 10 :)

What makes this outfit work? Well, the fitted tee helps balance out the loosish skirt. The silver belt adds a little bit of class that makes it wear-to-the-chiropractor's worthy, and the short sleeves with a jacket combo makes it versatile.

I love this jacket- the waist detailing makes it flattering but its thick and warm.

My hair is yesterday's random curls with a little braid. Hippie-ribbon. And this nifty little doo-dad:

Have you seen these? I bought them in the jewelry section of Walmart in a six-pack. They're little screws for hair-jewels and they're awesome.

They add a little bit of bling and they keep things in place like bobby pins. Perfect for headbands and scarves and things. :)

What do you wear on 'lounge' days?

Muddy

No complaints from this section of the country about the weather~ I've been romping through the mud all week in short sleeves. I study as I walk around splashing in mud puddles. #homeschoolingrocks ;)

Getting a denim skirt filthy muddy while barefoot has got to be one of the greatest joys in life.
Super simple outfit, but I thought I'd share.
I'm thinking about starting to say what about each outfit I think makes it different than your typical run-of-the-mill look. Like how this could have been just a jean-skirt-and-tee-shirt outfit, but I helped it along by adding the white bow belt. This look was actually inspired by Madeline. Would y'all like that little "education" with each post?
Olive "boyfriend" tee- JCPenny's? Khol's? Target? I bought it on clearance for $5. We wear it like twice a week. :P
Brown Tank: JCPenny's (they finally had brrrrowwwn!)
Denim skirt: Made by me, hem taken out, like Tuesday. Most of the mud washed off courtesy of the creek. :)
White belt: Headscarf thing from thrift store tied in a bow.
Earrings: Made by my sister! Check Eager Hands tomorrow for a giveaway of similar earrings!
Flip Flops~ Old Navy

What's your opinion on mud? Love it, hate it?
