Maxi Dress on the Beach

Hey y’all! Hope your weekend was fabulous! Mine was unexpected, but one I will treasure forever.

Our family cut our northern vacation in Maryland short and headed south-- way south, to Corpus Christi, TX to attend the funeral of my great aunt who passed away last Monday. While the extended family was gathered, we also had a memorial service for my great grandmother who passed away a few months ago. It was a very emotional weekend, but one that made me very proud to be a Howard.

On Sunday we attended Cowboy Church with my great uncle and that was wonderful. Odd, but surprisingly home-y and enjoyable. This is the dress + accessories I wore. I put it back on Monday morning and wore it over to the beach with my swimsuit underneath to get pictures for y’all. :D We had such a perfect time at the beach and got totally sunburned. My sister Emma jumped in these pictures with me after she jumped in the waves-- thought y'all might like to see the swimsuit I made her in an afternoon before she had to go to swimming lessons a few weeks ago.

Well, we arrived home at 7am and I've been unpacking all day-- we STUFFED our van full of treasures from my grandmother that have needed to find homes here. Time to get the kids in bed and then head over to a friend's house for the beginning of a LOTR marathon. :P I'll hopefully see y'all again this week! Thank you so much for all your amazingly kind comments on my last post-- it is so encouraging to know that the Lord is using this blog for His glory. Y'all have a great day!

  2. I have a rather strange question. What do you do for chest...er... girl support underneath your swimsuits? I really would like a rashguard or make a swimsuit top that is more modest but all I've found is you have to wear another full swim suit underneath and that's just so hot!

    1. Not strange at all! I personally just wear a regular bra under my swimsuit-- that's what I'm most comfortable in. But, you can also wear a bikini top if that works for you. I can't wear halters because it strains my neck too much, which is why I just stick with the bra. It works fine!

    3. I know this question wasn't geared towards me, but I just thought I'd throw this idea out there: if you try a regular bra and don't like it, you could always try a sport's bra. I've used one to swim in under my swim top for a few years now and have enjoyed that happy medium between a bikini top and a regular bra. Sport's bras tend to do better when wet, it seems. Just make sure it has enough padding, as some sport's bras don't. I puchased mine from Kohl's. :) Hope this might help you, Amy!
      Blessings!

    1. Beginning sewing: make a pillow! Then a pillow case! Then a bag! Then a quilted pillow! Then a more complicated bag! Then a circle skirt! Then a gores skirt! And you're off! :) find someone willing to teach you or use google as your instructor. :) hope that helps!

    4. If you want to LOVE sewing, a newer machine with no issues is helpful. :) But you can learn on an older- most people do. 5. Simultaneously sorry for you and your family's loss and glad you were able to spend some time with them!

Good to see you back. Is a big part of your family Texan? Yours seems to be a pretty cross-country clan.

    1. Thank you. You know, Ive never really thought about it, but yes, about 1/3 of the family is Texan or was. My moms family is in Maryland, my dads is spread all over, but my great grandmother lived in Texas so we would all gather around her for reunions. :)
