Mall Shopping Outfit

Hey y'all! I'm on a roll with this posting thing! You don't mind, do you?

I have the hardest time picking out shopping outfits because I want easy layers (so I have a tank on to try tops with), but flattering fit, and something that doesn't wrinkle too bad in the 3 hours of driving that shopping entails. I chose this skirt because I was trying on shoes to go with this length. I also wanted to wear socks so I could try boots on easier but I didn't own any closed-toe casual shoes... so I wore my house slippers (they're in style, right?) with little socks until I purchased a pair of Sperry's and could wear those around. :P

This skirt is a tried and true, wear all the time favorite among us Howard sisters. It has a wide waistband, back pocket, and contrast stitching... and the directions for how you can sew your own (in any size!) are in my eBook, available at FreshModesty.com. :)

Shirt: Khol's?: $8ish
Tank: JCPenny's: $6
Earrings: Droplette (jewelry shop coming soon to this blog!)
Slippers: Payless: $14
Hair Flowers: made by me: Free

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I have a ton of blog post ideas running through my head! Hopefully I'll get the chance to actually carry them out! :)
Alright. Brain is dead and pumpkin spice body scrub is calling my name from my freshly fall-cleaned shower room...Y'all have an awesome Lord's Day! What do you like to wear when you go shopping?

  2. I love the shirt paired with the tank. And I'm happy about seeing multiple posts! No complaints here! :) :)
When I go shopping, I usually wear a t-shirt over a Halftee/tank and my one loose pair of jeans (because they're easy to change in and out of while in fitting rooms and for the same reasons as you). I've been on a boots kick lately...now I just need to invade the thrift store and find some matching skirts...

  4. Yay! Frequent posting! You can tell I'm over the moon, can't you? ;)

At first I was shocked that you wore house slippers to the mall, but then I relaxed after seeing how cute and passable they look! I can testify how versatile that skirt is.. I have a favourite identical one that I sewed from your ebook. The hair flowers + curls combination is gorgeous! Keep it up!

  5. Yay! I love tons of posts, haha!! Especially on a Sunday morning before I go to pick out my clothes, yours always inspire me! :)
I really, really need a denim skirt like that..I think I'll be having a shopping trip of my own soon!
I typically wear a pair of jeans or a cotton knee length skirt, so I can take it off/put it on easier and try different things like boots or heels, etc. :)

  6. Love this outfit Olivia!! Super cute, and the colors are fab. I love the style of the blouse.

My favorite thing to wear while shopping is probably my dark wash Errand #17 skirt (thanks Olivia!--I LOVE it!), a v-neck t-shirt with a tank underneath, and either sandals or converses, depending on the weather. Cute and casual is my style. =)

  10. I love your outfit, it is really fun and practical for shopping! :) Just wondering, is it really hard to sew denim? Do you need a special heavy-duty needle? I think it would be fun to make a denim skirt.

  11. I LOVE this outfit! So cute! I usually wear a casual jean skirt and G:21 shoes. I love them, but they are two sizes too big and are wearing after a couple summers(keeping white shoes clean is hard! I love G-21 stuff but I think I'll pick a different colour next time! lol) and a random sweater. I like boho hats, which I am going to crochet my own, leggings under skirts, and in winter, stylish boots and a cute winter coat. I like that style. :))) You could call it random.

  12. Really like it Olivia! This color green looks so nice in you! Also one of my favorites! :)
How fun to know that there is going to be a jewelry store added!
I usually wear the same kind of style that you are wearing here- nice fresh jean skirt, flattering shirt, and simple matching hair accessories!
    Love hearing from you!

  15. I'm so glad you're posting this much on your blog ! It's pretty amazing to read those posts, you always come up with great ideas, and this outfit is no exception ! I love the green on you (doesn't look good on me, makes me look sick, so I try to avoid it !) And those slippers are really awesome ! I wouldn't wear mine to the mall (except if I want to look like a homeless, because they're really old ;-))
Have a great week and I can't wait to discover what you wore to church today ;-)

  16. this outfit is probably one of my very favorite casual one you've done, although it is REALLY hard to pick a favorite, as you dress so cute! I absolutely love that skirt.

  17. Olivia,
I need a dress to wear to a masquerade ball and I want it to be modest but not frumpy or really formal. Can you help?

  18. When I go shopping, I wear jeans, a nice shirt, and converse, boots, or flip flops, depending on the season.

  19. I have a question, if you don't mind... What software/program do you use to make your ebooks? I'm interested in writing one sometime in the near future, to do with sewing. Guess that happens when you get sick of hearing people say "oh, you sewed that? I could neeeever do that!" Or "can you teach me how to sew a dress?" :)

  22. So cute, Olivia! You are so creative and lovely!

I do have to make one comment (I don't mean to offend here)...I am currently enrolled in an College writing class, and I think maybe you meant to say "roll" instead of role in your opening line? :)
    Anyway, beautiful as always!

  24. That last photo (above the ones of your shoes) is simply stunning, Olivia!

My biggest thing when going clothing shopping is to wear my hair back-either in a ponytail, braid, or bun. If I don't, my hair ends up all over the place (especially in Winter time, as it get really bad static!). I also try to wear a tank top underneath, as you said. Usually don't worry about the bottoms, although I try to wear skirts, as that's what I wear most of the time.
And I'm all for regular posting! I love seeing posts from you on my dashboard-you're always an inspiration to me!
*UGH* I'm getting so horrible lately about posting! I need to get on some sort of schedule...

  25. Lovely! Picking out clothes for a shopping trip can be tricky, because I always want something I can change into and out of really quickly and easily! (and that doesn't have a shirt collar small enough that it will mess up my hair every time I try on something new!)

  26. This is a very cute outfit!
    And I love you hair!

  28. This is a cute, comfy outfit to shop in! :D It's hard to find a good outfit for trying on clothes. I usually make sure I wear something that's easy get on and off and doesn't mess up my hair when coming off. Haha!

  29. This is so neat that you did this post because I have been thinking (and praying) about make-up and if it's okay or not. You know God did also say "consider the lilies" and lilies are some REALLY pretty flowers. :)
Beautiful outfit and the hair... wow. SO pretty! I'm so gonna try that combination of curls and flowers. I was wondering if you'd ever find time to do a "how to" vid on how you curl those beautiful locks? God has blessed you with amazing talent dear sis. Keep up the work for the Lord! Be blessed
p.s. I really enjoy reading your blog- it inspires my modest wardrobe. :)

  31. Oh I love those earrings! They are gorgeous! Your sister makes them right? I can't wait till you start selling them on your website! I would really love a pair. I really love them not to mention I love supporting Christian young ladies businesses. I too try to dress in a way that makes clothes trying at stores easy. A tank is a must and I usually wear a skirt that is homemade and with an elastic waist. I also try not to wear a belt.
