Green Linen Tunic

Hey y'all! I hope your week has been as productive as mine! I've finally started shipping some sizes of Fresh Apparel skirts, which is super exciting and a relief!

I'm not sure why, but sewing is one of those activities that I infinitely prefer to do in pants. I think it's because I do a lot of crawling on the floor and there are so many loose threads that skirts pick up. So as I've been spending three days a week hemming (the other three days I'm on house-work duty), I've been thankful for my tunic collection.

This tunic was a pass-on from a friend who's grandma gave it to her. I love the texture of it, even though it wrinkles (I pretend that's the look it's supposed to have). The thick linen doesn't catch around the hips like a lot of other tunics so it's great for those jeans that don't quite fit right in the waist and need some cinching that would be visible under other weights of fabric.

// outfit details //
Tunic: Flax Brand: Handmedown
Tank: Forever 21: $1.80
Jeans: American Eagle brand: $14 ThredUP Credit
Boots: BearPaw brand: $25 ThredUP Credit
Earrings: Charming Charlie: $3
Mug: Michael's Craft Stores: $2

You'll notice I rolled the sleeves-- I do this a lot with long-sleeved tunics to help them be more flattering by giving definition on the arms. With long, loose sleeves, sometimes your arms and torso just look like one big mass and it's very widening. A quick flip of the cuff and that problem is solved! :)

Casually drinking coffee like a flamingo.
No time to wait for my hair to dry for pictures today, so I went with an easy messy french braid and called it done. I'm a little sleepy from several late nights in a row, so the coffee has been sticking close to me today. ;)

What have you been up to this week? What do you like to wear when you sew?

  2. Hey Olivia! That outfit is adorable! I've been reading your blog for about a year now and I just want to thank you for the example you set for the rest of us young ladies! This blog is such an inspiration to me! I wear skirts most of the time but I actually do like to wear jeans when sewing because of crawling all over the floor and getting thread and stuff all over my skirts! Thanks Olivia!

  5. I love the tunic! and the boots, but I can never find those boots for a good price. :( I want to make a knee-length pencil skirt out of jeans that I just got at the thrift store. I went for really big legs just so it won't be so mermaid-ish. Is that the right step to take and what is the best way to do a straight seem in the front? Thanks!

  8. Linen is supposed to look wrinkled and a little rumpled, that's part of the charm. I have linen sheets, and I love the cozy, half-messy look every time I make the bed. I love the Flax brand; I have one of their tops for a sleep shirt.

  12. I love your tunic - it is ideal to wear with your jeans.

As a fairly new pants (trousers as I am from the UK) wearer, you have been a great inspiration in showing how I can wear trousers modestly which is very important to me.
I have been wearing trousers regularly during the colder weather but have not yet bought any jeans as I am not too sure about the image.

  14. Ohhhhh I looooove that tunic! It looks so great on you! I usually wear skirts but sometimes jeans can be helpful especially if you're roofing and it's all guys on site (lol just brothers but still....) or when you're working multiple horses and have to do ALOT of riding....they can be quite handy. I love your outfits! Keep up the great work and don't let anyone stop you :)

  16. Ooh, I like your tunic! :D I used to have one similar but the long, puffy elastic sleeves were kind of not my thing. ;P
    I like your hair too!

  17. Super cute + practical! Thanks for sharing! I agree - skirts seem to catch so many more thread pieces for me, too. :)
